Last night I was truly blown away by one of the best movies Ive seen in a long time. Drive is a new film in to hit the box office and already its getting amazing reviews and inspiring critiques, Its visual elements and of course its soundtrack are both amazing and really give the story a a huge amount of depth and humanity to the characters.
But this isn’t a review of the movie (that’ll be in a different post), this is simply to help people discover what font may have been used in its title sequences and such. when I saw the first bit of text come up on the screen, GTA Vice City instantly came to mind, then, when the music started (oohhh what a great opening track) I couldn’t help but imagine it was Tommy Vercetti driving from the cops.
I digress, the legendary font used is called Mistral, and I have a feeling we will be seeing it around more and more.
Want Rage Mistral? download it from here

thanks this is great x
word font that is
we? Ryan?
Haha. I saw that font and instantly thought, “Why are they using Mistral font, and that cheesy song in the opening credits?!” I haven’t even got past the opening credits (first 5 minutes) and I googled mistral and drive, to see if others had thoughts about it too.
But then again I see fonts and know many of their names and can associate their past uses, and have preconceived notions about when/why to use them… plus I’m old enough to remember movies opening with scenes like that — tinny synth songs, neon colored fonts, etc. Reminded me too much of the 80′s… but then I remembered: the 80′s are cool again. LOL. Everything comes back around.
OK, back to watching the rest of the movie
Love this font! thank you for the info!
